Product description

Tears of Llorona is a rare, small batch, extra añejo Tequila, aged five years in oak barrels that have previously held scotch, sherry, and brandy. This unique triple barreling and extra-long aging creates a complex, layered fusion that is more like a cognac or a very old whiskey, yet it retains clear agave notes.

For a bottle this special, you should check out their story directly from them: Tears of Llorona Website

Master Distiller Germán Gonzalez harvests only high altitude, late season blue agaves from the volcanoes in Jalisco, known for their high sugar content. Germán Gonzalez is considered by aficionados and critics to be one of the best master tequileros alive. Making tequila has been a generational family passion for Germán. He was taught his craft by his father, Guillermo Gonzalez Diaz Lombardo, with whom he worked on what is now considered the first true super premium tequila to be imported to the United States -- the Chinaco tequila from early 1990's fame -- as well as the inspiration for today's hand crafted tequilas.

Germán's father was taught by his father, and so on, going back generations. Indeed, if you go back through Germán's direct family line, you arrive at General Manuel Gonzalez, President of Mexico 1880 to 1884. In fact, General Gonzalez is one of the more compelling figures in Mexican history. His role in the events of May 5, 1862 -- yes, that's Cinco de Mayo -- are the stuff of legend and its significance to Germán and to Tears of Llorona are depicted below.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Let it breathe. Swirl it in the glass. And do choose your glassware carefully because this is an experience for all five senses: the deep amber, the lingering nose, the feel of the legs on the glass, the conversation that ensues, and of course, the unforgettable taste.

Taste: Bouquet of black cherries, vanilla, honeysuckle and apples, leading to notes of chocolate, toffee and crème brûlée on the palate.

Finish: Finish is spicy and elegant, with notes of cinnamon and cloves balanced by sweeter touches of raisins, caramel and oak.
